All about the Google Phone, Nexus One!

340x_bgrgn-2

Pictures of HTC’s Nexus One (rumored to be the Google Phone) have been circulating around the internet for quite a few days now… but there has been no official word from any company yet. As of yesterday, the FCC approved the Nexus One and confirmed that it will run both (850 and 1900) GSM bands for voice calls and 1700 which would be T-Mobile’s 3G network.  The Wall Street Journal reported today that Google would directly sell the Nexus One as an unlocked unsubsidized model. As you can see in the pictures, it seems like the Nexus One is running an unreleased version of Android.

Update: One item of interest. In the packaging there’s a quick start guide which points users to a “questions” page at google.com/phone/support. The page is a dead end right now, but it certainly gets an eyebrow raise from us. If there is a real Google Phone in the offing, that seems a likely landing page for support.
There is also a nice list of rumored specs acquired from the Android 2.1 ROM by [TheseAretheDroids]

Google launches Free Public DNS service!

googlednsGoogle has launched its own Public DNS service aimed at making your browsing experience faster and safer than ever- or so they  claim- The DNS protocol is an important part of the web’s infrastructure, every time you visit a website, your computer tries to find the correct IP address to get you there. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day.
