According to TechCrunch, Google is acquiring VOIP service Gizmo5. There is no word yet on how much they paid but rumor has it that it came out to around $30 million in cash. This comes after the FCC launched an inquiry into Google Voice’s blocking of calls and began a review of whether the application should be regulated as a traditional telephone service. Well, with the acquisition of Gizmo5 it seems like Google is heading into the VOIP market after all. As most of us already know, Gizmo5 and Google Voice already work pretty good together, but now PC to PC calling is more of a reality. Google has yet to implement their Google Voice service with Google chat, yes that same chat box you see when using Gmail. So watch out Skype, Google is coming !
